Yellowstone Day Hiking

Ultimate Two-Day Yellowstone Adventure

At over 2.2 million acres, Yellowstone is larger than the states of Delaware and Rhode Island combined! A two-day tour is an ideal way to see more of everything the park offers, and our customized itinerary will highlight the most magnificent and inspiring destinations in Yellowstone.

The first day’s highlights include wildlife watching in world-famous Lamar Valley, summitting the 8,878 foot Dunraven Pass road, witnessing the glory of the upper and lower falls at the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, and viewing majestic Yellowstone Lake.

Day two is highlighted by many of Yellowstone’s most iconic thermal features, starting with the spectacular West Thumb Geyser Basin, where geysers and hot springs steam and rumble on the shores of Yellowstone Lake. Other stops may include Old Faithful, the Grand Prismatic, Paint Pots, and the Mammoth Terraces.

During early summer, Yellowstone National Park bursts with a variety of stunning wildflowers. As you drive or hike through the park, you will have the opportunity to learn how to identify many of these plants, trees, and flowers by studying their anatomy. In addition, we will explore how these plants have been utilized by modern and historical human populations for food, medicine, and goods production. By delving into the relationship between the park’s animals and the plants that support their food economy, you will gain a greater appreciation for the diverse flora and its contribution to the ecosystem.

Bison in Yellowstone

The bison is an iconic animal in Yellowstone and plays a significant role in the park’s history and future. This seminar will take place during the rut when the herds gather in the Lamar and Hayden Valleys. You will witness and learn about the complex social structure of these animals as you observe them. Get ready to experience the excitement as large bulls compete for breeding rights and spar with their rivals. Additionally, you will hear the inspiring story of how these animals made a comeback from the brink of extinction within Yellowstone.

History of Yellowstone

Yellowstone has a fascinating history of visitation, from ancient native peoples to modern-day visitors. It became the world’s first national park in 1872. We will explore many interesting historical locations in the park, particularly the lodges and interpretive sites. By visiting these places, we will learn about the people who explored the park, documented its wonders, and contributed to the development of the infrastructure we see today.

Bears in Yellowstone

Experience the Park in spring while gaining an appreciation and understanding of the role Yellowstone’s bears play in the Ecosystem. Learn about bear behaviors and biology, as well as their long and complex history with humans. Identify tracks and scat while learning how to safely recreate and travel through bear country. Hopefully (no guarantee), observe these magnificent animals in their home range. The course will include a current update on the park’s bear population and management strategy.
